Abyss Overlook Mule Ride: For those guests who prefer to avoid
the fear of heights, a more appropriate mule ride experience may be the
Abyss Overlook Mule Ride. This relaxing and enjoyable mule ride begins
at the historical Grand Canyon Livery Barn, which is located in Grand
Canyon Village. The ride begins as a peaceful ride along a portion of
the historic Grand Canyon railroad tracks, which were part of the
formerly-known Santa Fe Railroad. From there, you'll ride through the
largest Pinyon Pine forest in the country where you may be fortunate
enough to see wildlife such as elk or mule deer. After about 75 minutes,
you'll dismount your mule and enjoy a snack at the spectacular Abyss
Overlook. You'll want to have your camera at this breath-taking outlook
as it will be your one opportunity to take in the sights of Grand Canyon
during the ride. You'll be able to take photographs of this spectacular
3,000 foot vertical drop and the many colorful pinnacles, buttes, and
mesas that make up the grandeur of the Grand Canyon. After the break,
you will ride your mule back through the forest to the livery barn where
the ride will conclude. The total ride time is approximately 2-1/2 hours
plus approximately 30 minutes at the Abyss Overlook. The ride includes
snacks and a bota bag for water. Rates: $120.65 (including tax) per
person.
